Florence McDonald

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Florence McDonald, who passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 96.

Florence was the daughter of the late Michael and Lucy (Anderson) Matheson.

She was a woman of many talents, with a deep love for knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and sewing for family and friends. Her signature embroidered pillowcases were cherished gifts, lovingly made and joyfully given. Florence also enjoyed playing bingo and never turned down a good game of cards.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Corinne, and son-in-law, Corey Musgrave, with whom she resided. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: David (Robin), North Sydney; Ian, Ottawa; and Michael, Sydney Mines. She also leaves behind her treasured great-grandchildren: Morganne, Claire, Sonia, Layla, and Lily, all of whom she loved dearly.

Florence is also survived by her sisters, Joan Boutilier and Betty MacNeil; her brothers, Austin (Fran) and Bill (Sharon); her sister-in-law, Arthena Matheson; and many nieces and nephews whom she adored. She will be fondly remembered by her good friend Eileen Romeo and her bingo partner, Mary Cartwright.

Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by her beloved husband, Billy (1981); her beautiful daughter, Sylvia Anne (1973); and her only son, Freddy (2021). She was also predeceased by her brother Stanley and his wife Sylvia; her brother Leo; her sisters Anne Holic (John), Agnes Nichol (Gordon), and Cecilia Harvey (Gordon); as well as her brothers-in-law, Fred Boutilier and Bobby MacNeil.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at JM Jobes Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Florence are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.
