In Loving Memory of Florence Marie (O’Toole) McNeil
Alder Point
It is with treasured memories that the family of Florence Marie (O’Toole) McNeil announces the passing of our graceful mother on the evening of Thursday, January 11th, 2024.
Florence, beloved wife of the late Earl McNeil, mother, nanny, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side.
She was born on August 13th, 1931, and was a dedicated member of St. Anne’s church in Alder Point.
Florence married Earl in 1948 and shared a wonderful life together for 59 years. They had ten children: Joey (Cecilia), Gary (Janie), Jimmy, Mary, Nancy, Anita (Neil), Angie (Chris), Donna (Joey), Shaun, and Tracey (Jack). Nanny was a proud grandmother to Teresa, Amy (Cara), Michelle (Andrew), April (Jeff), Kyle (Amanda), Kelly (Mitchell), DJ, Allen, Jenny (Marty), Brody, Chantel, Kassidy, Chris, and Jeff, and she will be forever loved. She was an adoring great-grandmother and will be missed dearly by Nate, Jace, Abbi, Jesse, Gavin, Wesley, Jackson, Jacob, Nathan, Bryce and Cody. She is also survived by her sister Shirley (Clyde) and sister-in-law Marjorie.
Florence was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Ella O’Toole, infant daughter Mary, sons Jimmy and Shaun, son-in-law James, sisters Deane (Brudy) and Lenore (Barry), brothers Francie (Anne), Bobby, Aussie and Father Ray.
Florence was a poised, beautiful lady, who lived a full life. She was the matriarch of our large family and ‘home’ to us all. Her Sunday dinners were the glue that held our family together. Florence was an amazing baker, whose funeral squares and apple pies were loved and enjoyed by all. She was very knowledgeable and up-to-date on current events, and there wasn’t a crossword puzzle that she couldn’t complete. She loved flowers and had a passion for gardening. Every time they left the house, Florence took pleasure in making Earl wait for her to be ready.
She was a valued member of her ‘Club’ for 74 years and will be missed dearly by her lifelong friends Esther Boutilier, Louise Confiant and the late Muriel and Gert Laffin.
A heartfelt thanks to her Northside Guest Home family, for the exceptional care and friendships they provided over the last two years. Special love to Ma’s niece and our angel, Kerri Scott.
Florence’s happiest moments were sitting in her chair by the fireplace, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of her loving family. She was the Queen of our world.
Visitation for Florence will be held Monday, January 15th, from 3-8 pm at J.M. Jobes Funeral home, Sydney Mines. A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, January 16th at 10:30 am, at St. Anne’s church in Alder Point, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating.
