Florence Mary (Pentecost) Power
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on June 11, 2024, in her 83rd year at the Northside Guest Home. Born in Sydney Mines on October 11, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Margret (McGuigian)Pentecost.
Mom was a kind and thoughtful woman with a sense of humor that could make you laugh and smile on the darkest of days. She was adventurous and fun-loving and the most non-judgmental person you would be lucky to have known. She was active in her community and a proud member of the Florence Canadian Legion Branch 83 and the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club. She happily gave countless volunteer hours to help her community. She was a member of the Sydney Mines Bowling Team and loved bowling almost as much as Bingo. She loved life and did some traveling with her best friend, Colleen McIntyre.
In her working years, she was employed by Nickerson and National Sea Products.
Florence, affectionately known as Jesse to her brothers and sisters, was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Florence is survived by her precious children: Michele (Stanley)Laffin, Artie Power, Darlene (Kevin) Best, and Jackie (Julie) Williams. Florence was blessed with five grandchildren: Joshua, Luc & Sarah Laffin, Cody (Shannon) Power, and Aaron (Gabby) Power. She also had three beautiful Great-Grandchildren: Paisley, Addison, and Kacey Power. Florence was so very proud of her children and grandchildren. She is also survived by several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Peter Power, and infant son, Peter; brothers, Artie, Johnny, David (Effie), Stephen, and Jimmy Pentecost; and Sisters Christina (Charlie) Williams, Bernadette (Clarence) Chapman, Theresa (Alec) Knee, and Rosie MacAulay.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Mom’s wishes, there will be a visitation on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, from 6-9 pm. This will be followed by a funeral mass to celebrate her life at St Anne Church, Alder Point, on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 10:30 am. The burial will take place at St Joseph Cemetery in Sydney Mines directly after the church mass. A luncheon will follow at the Alder Point Community Hall.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who helped mom along her journey. Thankyou to the care givers who allowed her to stay in her home as long as possible. Thank you to family and friends who took the time to visit with her. Thankyou to the staff of the Northside Guest Home for the taking such good care of her. A very special Thankyou to her best friend Colleen, your friendship meant the world to her.
