Florence “Irene” Smith

July 8th, 1936 – September 28th, 2023

With heartfelt sadness, we, the family of Irene Smith, say goodbye to our dear mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and special friend.

                Born on July 8th, 1936, in Florence to the late Freeman and Ethel Dawe. Irene grew up in Florence until her early 20s when she moved to Toronto, Ontario, to begin her adult life. A few years later, she and her husband Nick relocated to London, Ontario, where she resided until 2011 before deciding to return home to her roots in Cape Breton until the time of her passing on September 28th, 2023.

                A special thank you goes out to her dear friend Bill McPherson and family for their kindness and support during her time of illness.

                A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 7th, from 2 -3 PM at J.M Jobes Funeral Home, with a service to follow conducted by Deacon David Lewis at 3 PM.

                In Lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated and can be made in Irene's name to the Cape Breton Cancer Society
