It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Frances (Frankie) Cantwell, announce her peaceful passing on November 30, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Born in Millville, she was the daughter of the late William (Bill) and Sadie MacIntosh (nee McCready). Mom went to Normal College in Truro in 1954 and taught at several schools around the Northside until the 1970s.
She will be greatly missed by her sons: Glenn (Nancy), Boularderie, Kirk (Judy), Bras d’Or, and Vaughn (Marie), New Harris; daughters, Vicky (Craig) Martin, Cole Harbour, Lynn (Dave) Gillan, Burton, N.B., Kelly (Kevin Altman), Calgary, AB, and son-in-law David Zipf, Des Moines, Iowa; 14 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Norman (Diane) MacIntosh, Ontario; sisters Florence (Chester) Bugden, Ontario; Helen Boutilier, Little Pond, Marguerite (Rollie) Leyte, Millville; and sisters-in-law, Joan Bugden, Ontario; and brother-in-law Donald MacInnis, Skye Glen.

She was also predeceased by brothers Bill, Jack, and Ernest (in infancy), sisters Mary, Yvonne, and Anna, and brothers-in-law Karl Anderson, Don Cantwell, and Mel Boutilier.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their excellent care of our mother.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or, on Saturday, December 2, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Chinoso Alaribe officiating. The burial will take place in St Joseph’s Parish cemetery (family only), with a public reception to follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
