Francis (Panky) Gracie
Mill Creek
We, the family, regret to announce the passing of Francis (Panky) Gracie, age 84, on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Alder Point on January 4, 1940, he was the son of the late Theodore and Agnes (Laffin) Gracie.
Panky is survived by his daughter Allison (Shawn) Clost , Ottawa; son Robert (Carrie), Alder Point; and grandsons Lucas and Owen Gracie.
Also left to mourn are his sisters Margarite, Rose (Mevy), Angela, Laura (Joey), Carole(Bernie), Judy(Bob), and Cathy(George), brothers Hilly, Benny(Georgina), Teddy(Audrey), and Billy(Laurie), as well as many sisters and brothers in law and numerous nieces and nephews on both the Gracie and Stubbert sides of the family.
He was preceded by his wife Margaret (Stubbert), sister Agnes, brothers Lawrence and Joey, and half-brother Louis Elliott.
Panky started working at a young age after his father's passing to help with the care of his younger brothers and sisters. He spent most of his life on the water as a fisherman aboard the Catherine G and the Stella Rie II. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his grandson's hockey and baseball games, playing pool at the Blue Mist, playing weekly card games with his siblings, and faithfully listening to Celtic Serenade every Sunday evening.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Heart Function Clinic at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital as well as the nursing staff on 4A for their care and compassion while he was under their care.
Cremation will take place, and as per Panky's wishes, there will be no visitation or church service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
