John Frederick (Freddie) (MacDonald) MacLean
Freddie passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on May 12, 1952, Freddie was the son of the late Gloria MacLean. He was also predeceased by his grandmother Lou (Donovan) MacLean and several aunts and uncles.
Freddie is survived by his adoptive family, Marilyn (Duckie), James, and Kelly, his caretakers for many years. He is also survived by his aunt Vivian MacLean and uncle Jackie Rose, as well as his good friend Hector MacKinnon.
Freddie was a member of the Sydney Mines Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8, where he enjoyed playing darts. He was also a member of St. Pius X Church, where he was an altar server for many years. Freddie was well known in the community, often taking on small jobs as well as catching up with friends at the local coffee shop on a regular basis.
The family would like to thank the VON, the Nursing staff of the 5th Floor, Northside General Hospital, and Dr. Andrew Wawer.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, August 29th at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church Hall, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines, to follow.
