In Loving Memory of John Gary Butts

It is with profound sadness that the family of John Gary Butts, age 69, announces his passing on Friday, June 26, 2026.

John was born in Ontario on October 25, 1956, to the late Thomas Butts and Jennie (Cantwell) Butts.

John will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Marilyn (Hatcher) Butts. He was a proud and loving father to Jason (Angela) Butts, Shawn (Samantha), Gary (Amanda), and Mallory (George) Jurcich. He also cherished his stepchildren, Justin and Sondra Hatcher, and was a proud grandfather to several beloved grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

He is also survived by his sister, Peggy; his brother, Richard (Virginnia) Butts; as well as many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

John spent many years working as a chief cook on Great Lakes boats, where his strong work ethic, dedication, and friendly spirit earned the respect and friendship of those who worked alongside him.

He will be remembered for his love of family, his generous heart, and the many cherished memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A funeral service will be held at a later date.

Though he is no longer with us, John's love and legacy will continue to live on through his family and all whose lives he touched.
