Gladys Devoe Obituary

Gladys Yolanda (Harris) Devoe

Sydney Mines

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of the most kind-hearted and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Gladys Yolanda (Harris) Devoe, at the young age of 57.

Born in Sydney Mines on June 18, 1966, she was the daughter of the late Marie (Lovell) and Charles Harris.

Throughout her years, Gladys was a loving wife and stay-at-home mom until her children were older; she had many jobs over the years in which she worked hard and loved them all. Later in life she and her family moved to Fort McMurray, and she started working in the labourer’s union Local 92

When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved taking them on camping trips, taking them to the park, having sleepovers with them, and spoiling them.

When she wasn’t with her grandchildren, she enjoyed going to bingo, fishing, music, going down south, and going to Vegas with Brent.

In her later years, after she was diagnosed with dementia, she enjoyed going for long drives with her husband, brothers, and sisters. She loved getting her donuts, Ebbies burgers, and milkshakes.

Gladys is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Brent Devoe, and her children, John (Jenny) and Erica (Rico). Grandchildren: Brody, Breton, Eila, RJ, Jaden, Ezra, Izaia, and Vandel. Gladys is also survived by siblings, Charlene (Art), Charles ( Sabrina), Michelle (Blaine), Billy ( Tanya), and Cindy ( Neil). Numerous nieces and nephews (whom she adored), Aunts, Uncles, brother and sisters-in-law, cousins, friends, and extended family.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Gladys Pentz and James (Tina) Harris and maternal grandparents George (Alice) Lovell. Stepfather Louis Prince, mother, and father-in-law Hubert (Pearl) Devoe, and nephew Brandon Leblanc.

We would like to thank Dr. Wawer, the nursing staff at the Northside General Hospital, 2Nd floor, and the staff at Habourstone Enhanced Care for all the wonderful care and kindness Gladys received.

A special thank you to all family and friends who showed love, comfort, and kindness to Gladys and to those who helped with any part of Gladys’ care.

Gladys's visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow at 3 p.m. in JM Jobes Funeral Home Ltd, Sydney Mines.
