Harold William Fraser

With heavy hearts, we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Harold Fraser on Monday, August 21st, 2023, at the age of 79. Born in Ross Ferry on September 14, 1943, he was the son of the late Alexander and Margaret (MacLean) Fraser. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie (Jessome), daughter Susan and son Stephen (Jennifer) Fraser. He is also survived by brother Roy, sister Isabel Hawley, Vida (Basil) MacNeil, brother-in-law Darrell & Mary Lou Jessome, sister-in-law Sharon Eszes and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Kenneth and David and brother-in-law Lawrence Hawley.
Harold was a heavy equipment operator all his life and worked for various companies on the island. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Local 721. He enjoyed playing 45s at the senior club. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially the times spent with his nephews Sandy, Rodney, and Kenny.
A special thank you to Dr. Saliba, Dr. Ignacio, Dr. Jennifer MacDonald, and all the nurses at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and Palliative Care Units. We also want to mention his special little fur babies, Buddy and Princess.
Cremation has taken place; visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, August. 25th,2023, at J M Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St. Sydney Mines. A memorial service to celebrate Harold’s life will be held in St. James Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 26th, at Big Bras d’Or with Rev Peter MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Donations in Harold’s Memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Patient Care fund.
