It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. At the age of 78, Harry died on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on May 22, 1946, Harry was the son of the late George and Louise (Leyte) Burt. In his early years, Harry was a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders, and he worked as an orderly at the QE2 Hospital in Halifax. He also worked at Eastern Bakery and spent many years employed with Allen’s Ice Company.
Harry loved nature and was always outside doing something. He loved fishing, ice fishing, hunting, skating, playing hockey, baseball, and bowling. Harry was a very active man and spent many hours outside with his children and grandchildren. When asked what made him happy, he didn’t hesitate to say, “the kids”. He was always so kind and always wore his heart on his sleeve. In his final months, Harry wanted to go for drives and see special places around Nova Scotia. He was fortunately able to visit Halifax, Antigonish, St. Peters, Louisburg, and The Cabot Trail.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Christina (Ginter) Burt; his daughter, Laura (Michael) MacAulay and his son, Steven (Everett), and his grandchildren, Jenna, Tyler, Cate and Isabelle. Also left to mourn are his siblings, Linda (Kevin), Mary Lou, and Cathy (Art) Rose, his brothers-in-law, Joe Simpson, Alister MacIsaac, and Hughie Sullivan; his sisters-in-law Winnie Burt, Linda Sullivan, and Joan LeRoy, aunts Shirley Leyte, Ollie Atkinson, and Marg McInnis, Uncle Bud McInnis, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Harry was predeceased by his brothers, George and Walter, sisters, Margaret, Carol and Edith, his mother and father-in-law, Pauline and Lloyd Ginter, and his brothers-in-law, Roddie MacIsaac, Glen Boutilier, Billy, and Paul Ginter.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Harry’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 4 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating.
A special thank you to Julia Penny, James Galpin, and Dr. Landry for your compassion and wonderful care of Harry. Also, to the Palliative Care, Home Care, VON, and the 4B staff. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry’s name may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the
