It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle, and friend, Hector MacDonald, of Bay Road Valley, who left this world peacefully on March 31, 2025, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments.
Born on May 18, 1956, in Neil’s Harbour, Hector was the beloved son of the late Hughie and Julia (Brown) MacDonald. He was a man of quiet strength and unwavering kindness, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Hector is survived by his siblings: John Angus of Bay Road Valley; Allen James (Kathleen) of Bay Road Valley; Archie of St. Margaret’s Village; Neil of Edmonton, Alberta; Bobby (Margaret) of St. Margaret’s Village; and his sister, Grace, of Sugar Loaf. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, who will forever treasure the memories they shared with their Uncle Hector.
For over 30 years, Hector worked as a fisherman’s helper, embracing the rugged beauty of the Atlantic and the camaraderie of his fellow fishermen. He had a deep appreciation for nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was cutting wood or snowmobiling through the winter landscapes of the highlands. His love for his community was evident in his everyday actions, and his presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in St. Margaret’s Village. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at 11 AM at the exact location, where family, friends, and community members will gather to honor and celebrate Hector’s life.
Though he has left this world, the legacy of Hector’s kindness, hard work, and love for his family and community will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
