Hedy MacNeil Obituary

Henrietta Marie (Gale) MacNeil

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Henrietta Marie (Gale) MacNeil, 89, on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at the Northside General Hospital.

Hedy was born on March 27, 1932 in Port au Port Newfoundland to the late Cornelius and Edith (Doucette) Gale.  Mom grew up, married and raised her family on the Northside.  In her earlier years, Mom enjoyed traveling, and Saturday outings.  Mom led a very tranquil life and was happiest at home surrounded by family, preparing delicious meals, catching up on all the news and having a good laugh.  Mom was a very dedicated stay at home mom and always worked very hard to make sure her family was taken care of.  We were so blessed to have had such a generous and caring mother.

Hedy is survived by her nine children, Ellen (Kenneth) Ashe – Mill Creek, Kenny (Eileen) MacNeil – Sydney Mines, Paul (Mary) MacNeil-Ontario, Eric (Susan) MacNeil-New Glasgow, Terry (David) Briers-Halifax, Michael (Carylon) MacNeil-Bras d’Or, Michelle MacNeil-North Sydney, Audrey (Earl) Gerrow-Florence, Heather (Kenneth) Paquet-Sydney Mines, 19 grandchildren, 35 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Terry (Shirley) Gale, and sisters, Mona (Art) MacInnis, Debbie (Gordon) Parlee and Marie Gale.

Mom was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Elmer (Red) MacNeil, two grandsons, Kenny (Jr.) Ashe and Steven Derrick MacNeil, one granddaughter Kimberly Ashe, and one great granddaughter Katie Anne MacMullin, brothers Louis Gale and Connie Gale, sisters Lillian MacDougall and Evelyn Russell.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Michelle McKeough and Louise, Dr. Eugene Ignacio, and the staff at the Cape Breton Regional and Northside General Hospital, your kindness will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

We will forever miss your smiling face – you are in heaven now – you have earned your angel wings!

In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still.   In our hearts you hold a place no one else will ever fill.  Rest in peace Mom.
