Hugh Scott Obituary

Hugh (Harry) Scott

Sydney / Sydney Mines

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Hugh (Harry) Scott. Who passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

Born on June 13, 1926. Harry shared his Queen St. home in Sydney Mines, N.S., with his parents, Charles and Rebecca Scott, and his two brothers, the late Charles James Scott (Mary) and Harold Scott (Marion).  Life was never dull with Harry around.

Harry moved to Brown St. when he married the love of his life Laura Christine who passed away on July 22, 2010.  They shared the home with Laura’s parents, Billy and Annie Gillis.

Laura and Harry loved life and shared their joy of music with others as Laura was the organist at St. Mathew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines.  Harry enjoyed singing in the various choirs under the direction of his wife.

They loved to travel and enjoyed many memories of times shared with friends and countless nautical miles.

Harry lost another dear friend who shared a special bond with him when Charles Holmes passed away suddenly in 2015.

Harry moved to Parkland Cape Breton in 2012.  We are grateful for the care he received from the staff at the residence as he shared his life with the residents who were dear friends.

Harry’s family will miss sharing his wisdom, humor, stories, he so freely provided.  Jim & Bev Scott and Rennie Moretti of London, On.  Becky & Richard Tunks of Ingersoll, On.  David & Frances Scott, Sarnia, On.  as well as his great nieces and nephews and their families who have special memories of their visits.

We want to thank Lorna Holmes for the love, care, support, and friendship she willingly provided for Harry over the years.  Derek Devoe has been a comfort and help to Lorna and Harry.  We felt better knowing Harry had someone close by to care for him, and we are grateful for their help.

In keeping with Harry’s wishes, there will be no visitation; please take a few minutes to remember a life well lived by a special person, as he goes to meet his family and friends who have passed before him onto that beautiful shore.

If you wish to donate in his memory, please consider Harry & Laura Scott Foundation c/o Scotia Wealth Management, 258 Charlotte St., Suite 100, Sydney N.S. B1P1C5 or a charity of your choice.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
