It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the peaceful passing of Ida M. Jackson (nee Rideout) Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital in Neils Harbour, at the age of 101 years with the love of her family surrounding her.
Born October 10th, 1921, in Ingonish, Ida was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend to many. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children: Sandra Usifer, Gerald (Marilyn) Jackson, and Jim (Sandra) Jackson, along with Shirley Jackson, Bert Doucette, and Georgina Donovan, as well as 18 grandchildren, Gary Doucette, Ken Doucette, Michelle Doucette, Mike Jackson, Terry Jackson, Steve Lawrence, Sue Beck, Sharon Tobin, David Usifer, Deb MacPherson, Danny Usifer, Trevor and Kevin Braunmiller, Tracey Warren, Kathy Braunmiller, Tyler and Brady Jackson and Brett Jackson and 31 Great-grandchildren and 7 Great-great grandchildren. Ida also leaves to mourn Evelyn MacLeod, who was her sister-in-law but also a very dear friend.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Jackson, and her children, Stephen, Terry, Beverly, Sandford, and Marion. As well as Laura Jackson, Gary Braunmiller, and Charlie MacDonald.
Ida is the last surviving member of her family. She was the daughter of Sarah and Fred Rideout of Ingonish. Ida was born and raised in Ingonish and lived most of her life at Kings Point, where she was always surrounded by family and friends. Her greatest joy was being with children and friends and her three generations of Grandchildren who loved to come and visit and spend time with her. And most recently, while she had been now welcoming a brand-new generation of Great-great grandchildren, she was overjoyed to welcome two new twin Great grandsons, Max and Jack, into her family, of which she was so proud.
She will be loved and deeply missed by all her family and friends, who were also very special to her.
The family wishes to send a special Thank You to the staff at the Highland Manor for their care and compassion over the last few months and to the Doctors and nurses at Buchanan Memorial Hospital. A heartfelt thank you is extended to Dr. Ken Murray; Mom had the privilege of being his friend and oldest patient for over 50 years.
There will be no visitation. However, a Memorial Service will be held for Ida at the Ingonish United Church on Sunday, July 9th, at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, consideration can be made to the Ingonish United Church. Interment will follow immediately after the service in the Ingonish United Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the Branch #105 Ingonish Legion.
