It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our Mom, Iris Marie (Harrietha) Jones, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Mill Creek on May 9, 1945, Iris was the daughter of the late John Carl and Annie Grace (Marsh) Harrietha. Mom was married to Dad for 53 years. Iris started working at the British Canadian Cooperative in Sydney Mines. Together with her husband, Joe, she owned and operated Iris’s Restaurant in Bras d’Or. In her later years, until her retirement, she worked for Canada Post. Mom loved to spend time with her friends playing cards. She loved to cook and bake her delicious coconut cream pies for all to enjoy. She felt very fortunate to have a great friend in Heather MacNeil, who was always there for her.
Mom is survived by her children, Liam (Dianne) Jones Port Colburne, Lisa Macdonald (Peter) Halifax, Gail Jessome Halifax, Paul Jones Edmonton, and Carl Jones Bras d’Or.
Mom is survived by her six grandchildren, Kelly Jones (Lindsey), Nicole Jessome, Matthew Jessome, Brandon Macdonald, and Holly and Alicia Jones.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Joseph (Joe) Jones and son-in-law Raymond Jessome. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family, predeceased by her brothers Carl Harrietha, Russell Harrietha, Reg (Farmer) Harrietha, and sisters Sue Harrietha and Nancy Kelsie.
In accordance with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 26th, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish Church Bras d'Or
