It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we, the family of Iseabeanie (Beanie) Legatto announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend on April 8th, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 90.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, sister, aunt, she was known for her unwavering love, kindness, and strength. Beanie leaves behind a legacy of warmth and compassion, cherished by her family and friends. Mom was the heart and home of our family, and she will be dearly missed.
In Florence mom came into this world on February 19th, 1935 to Norman MacIntyre and Eva Boutilier. Mom was the third oldest child of 16 children. Mom learned to carry her cross and the cross of others at a very young age. Mom was taken out of school at a very young age to care and provide for her siblings. Mom worked in private homes, cooking and cleaning for families. Later in life after her children had grown Mom worked at Northside General Hospital in the laundry for 25 years, sterilizing, cleaning, folding and pressing bedding to ensure patients had clean and spotless bedding. Mom took great pride in a clean spotless home and delicious home cooked meals.
A remarkable woman who lived a life filled with love, compassion, and resilience. She was a true inspiration, always putting the needs of others before her own. Mom loved the simple things in life such as cooking, baking, and hosting family gatherings. Our mom was a sweet lady with a kind heart who would give you anything. Mom was always concern about children and worried if their basic needs were met. If she knew a child was in need, she would be out shopping to buy for them. Her passion was shopping, and she enjoyed many shopping trips to Halifax with her girls.
Our precious mom is survived by her husband of 67 years of unconditional love, Vincent Legatto, a devoted mother to her children Norma (Harry), Arlene (Brian), John (Paula) and Carmella (Paul) she nurtured them with unwavering support. Mom loved all her children dearly. She was always delighted and happy when she knew John and Carmella were coming home with their children for the weekend. She equally enjoyed the many weekends she spent in Halifax, Port Hawkesbury and Christmas Island.
Her beloved grandchildren, Julia, Devan, Kayla, Johnnah, Taylor, Mitchel, Katrina, Karly, and Vanessa. Returning home from Winnipeg or Halifax we were always being warmly welcomed by Nan with snack, tea, and her delicious spaghetti and meatballs. Sitting around the kitchen table, hearing stories from her earlier years and learning about her life are memories that we will always cherish.
Her treasured great grandchildren, Hayden, Jax, Hope, Ava, Amaya, Max and Maeve, whom she loved so much.
Mom was blessed with step grandchildren, Mark, Ryan and Dustin and step great grandchildren, Maddy, Ben, Paisley, and Matias.
Her siblings, sister Mary Gardiner and brothers Melvin (Laurena)
and Ricky and many nieces and nephews. Her sister in laws Mary Rogers, Colleen MacIntyre, Thelma MacIntyre and her brother in law Wayne Devoe. Mom loved her brothers and sisters dearly. She shared stories of buying dolls for her sisters at Christmas.
Mom had a very special friend who she adored, her fur baby Broc. Who brought her so much joy and happiness.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Eva and Norman MacIntyre and her siblings: Naomi, Leanie, Leona, Margie, Geri, Lillian, Danny, Philie, Ronnie, Tommy (Diddy), Kay and Lesina. Mom had dealt with a lot of deaths in her life. Her faith, prayers and trust in God got her through these difficult times.
The family would like to express our heartful thanks to Dr. Kolsmith and Karen Pero for his care through out the years, Dr. Kayla Shepherd, Dr. Andrew Wawer, Dr. Alexander Wawer and Dr. Eugene Ignacio, Gerry Buffett, Briane Squires, David Ivey, the staff of Northside General Hospital, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Continuing Care, VON, paramedics of NS Health emergency team, and pharmasave. Your compassion and kindness will never be forgotten.
We would also like to thank Reverend Fabian Ihunegbo, Deacon Dave Lewis and Reverend Anthony O’Connor. We truly appreciated your spiritual support and kindness at this difficult time.
Besides her family, mom had a team of angels helping her through this difficult time. Special thanks to Son-In-Law Harry Blinkhorn, Donna Cox, Wanda Lovell and her niece Sherry Edwards that provided unwavering support and kindness. The family is deeply grateful to everyone who made mom comfortable as possible during her illness.
Mom leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will forever be etched in our hearts. A mother is she who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take. To the world, you are a mother but to your family, you are the world.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of J.M.Jobes Funeral Home. He only takes the best.
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around you
And whispered “come to Me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you.
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
