Janet Stevenson Smith
With sorrow and great sadness, we announce the death of Janet Stevenson Smith (Jenny Lou) of Sydney Mines. She passed away on September 13, 2023, at the age of 72. Sister, mother, and grandmother Jenny was born on July 15th, 1951, daughter to the late Robert B. and Margaret Anne (MacKay) Smith of Sydney Mines.
Besides her parents, Jenny was predeceased by brothers James, Robert, Peter, John, and Tom, two sisters in infancy, sisters Katherine Hebert and Peggy Audoux (Bud Audoux).
She is survived by her son Tom and her grandsons Jacob and Alex (sons of Cindy Smith), sister Lillian McPhee, and her sister-in-law June Smith. Growing up, she could be found most times with her best friend Nancy Smith (Collier). She was a member of the Salvation Army and worked at the Scotia Bank in Sydney Mines, Browns Refrigeration, and for a short time at Canada Post in her younger years.
She moved to New Brunswick for love and received it in spades from her ex-common-law husband Florent Richard (Frenchy), three step-children Kevin Richard (Janet), Carol Richard (Andy), Timmy Richard (Angela) and her granddaughters Emily, Sarah and Ashley Richard.
Jenny didn’t have much, but she enjoyed looking after those who needed it and spoiling her grandchildren when she could. She enjoyed decorating and getting ready for all the holidays, cooking, and feeding others. A special thank you to Kathy Audoux, who, as always, has been a pillar of strength through difficult times.
In keeping with Jenny’s wishes, there will be a visitation from 1-2 p.m. on Monday, September 25th, 2023, with a celebration of Jenny’s life at 2 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Donations in Jenny’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
