With broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, Jeffrey James Bonar, on June 26, 2025, at the age of 42. Born on March 31, 1983, in North Sydney, Jeff was a kind and spirited soul who left an unforgettable mark on all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving parents, Corrie Stapleton and Jimmie Bonar; his brother, Chris (Natasha); and his five cherished children: Jeremy, Alex, Rhylen, Lucas, and his precious daughter, Amaira. Also mourning his loss are the mothers of his children, Mandy Jessome and Desiree Mitchelitis; his nieces and nephews, Rialy, Brayden, and Isla; his grandniece, Teigan; his beloved grandmother, Betty Bonar; many aunts, uncles, extended family, and his best buddy—his loyal dog, Arlo.
Jeff was predeceased by his grandparents, Mary and Eddie Stapleton, and Tom Bonar, who now welcome him with open arms.
Throughout his life, Jeff worked various jobs, but his heart always belonged to the water. He found true joy in hauling lobster traps and scanning the skies in hopes of spotting an eagle. As a child, full of energy and spirit, Jeff could often be found riding his ATV, playing ball in the summer, or enjoying hockey in the winter. His love of the outdoors and sports made him a fixture in the neighborhood, where local kids would knock on his door, eager for him to join in the fun.
This same joy and playfulness shone brightly in his role as a father. Whether bouncing on the trampoline, playing backyard hockey on a puddle-turned-rink, or practicing ball, Jeff was always there—sharing laughter, love, and life lessons through play.
Though Jeff’s time with us was far too short, his infectious smile, irresistible charm, and big-hearted, playful spirit leave a lasting impression on all who knew him—especially his children.
Despite the many challenges he faced, Jeff never gave up. He lived with resilience, facing struggles head-on—neither bike nor car accidents could keep him down. He truly lived nine lives.
"Like a bird singing in the rain, let grateful memories survive in times of sorrow."
May Jeff’s memory serve as a beacon of hope for those still battling addiction. Though his physical presence is gone, his spirit will live on—in the hearts of his children, his family, and all who loved him—forever reminding us to cherish each moment and embrace the power of love and forgiveness.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 5th, from 1–2 p.m., under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, followed by a service at 2 p.m., officiated by Deacon David Lewis. All who knew Jeffrey are welcome to attend.
