James Robert Pickles
Sydney Mines
It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of James Pickles “Jimmy” on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at his home. He was 87 years of age.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Olive and Robert “Bob” Pickles.
Jimmy was a member in the Canadian Armed Forces and at the time of his passing, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines. Jimmy was a long-term employee of Marine Atlantic and retired in 1986. He was very fortunate to be a survivor of the MV Patrick Morris that sank in April of 1970.
Before and after retirement, Jimmy loved to spend time camping and fishing. He truly loved Lake Ainslie and fly fishing in Trout Brook. He was well known for his fly-tying skills.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley Pickles, his son David (Michelle) Pickles and his precious grandchildren Kailey (Luis), Michael and Patrick Pickles. He is also survived by his sister Anna O’Handley.
Visitation for James Pickles will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, Friday, April 29, 2022, from 2-4pm with the funeral service to follow. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
