John Eveleigh Obituary

John Benjamin Eveleigh

Sydney Mines

It is with great sadness the family of John Benjamin Eveleigh announces his passing on Sunday, April 21st, 2024, at the Northside General Hospital with his Loving wife and family by his side.

Born in Sydney Mines on June 1st, 1936, he was the son of the late Walter and Caroline Eveleigh and brother to eleven siblings – Annie, Agnes, Liza, Mary, Albert, Joe, Bill, Louie, Hurbie, Alex, and Ray.

John was a proud and hardworking coal miner who worked for Devco for many years before his retirement. He was always at peace fishing with his sons at their favorite fishing hole. An avid bowler, John could be found playing in the local league nights with his close friends. He was a kind and gentle soul who inspired his family to appreciate the little things in life. We will carry the memories of him forever in our hearts.

His wife, Myrtle, is left to mourn his loss, along with his sons John and Chris, his grandchildren Mitchell, Jonathon, Justin, and Haley Eveleigh, and his Great-grandchildren Dante Eveleigh, Soleil and Sean Alderman, Sterling, Bryanna, and Kenena Fitzgerald. They will greatly miss him.

Cremation has taken place; a visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, from 1-3, with a service to follow officiated by Rev. Jackie Warren at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
