Forrest, John Robert 53
It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of John Robert Forrest on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the age of 53.
Born in Sydney Mines on March 27, 1973, he was the son of Catherine and the late Edward “Skinny” Forrest.
Robert, as everyone knew him, was a career carpenter who worked at Magna, Municipal Ready-Mix, and most recently with Aajon Builders. In his earlier years, Robert could often be found working alongside his brothers, Blair and Barry, and his uncle Donald on homes throughout Sydney Mines.
He will forever be remembered for his strong work ethic, his willingness to help anyone, his sense of humour, and his ever-present grin.
He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his two daughters, Marley (Greg) and Lola, whom he loved more than anything, and by his two cherished grandchildren, Halle and Dean.
Also grieving his loss are his mother, Catherine (Mills) Forrest; his sisters and brothers, Wendy, Kim, Cindy (Fraser), Blair (Nona), and Barry (Michelle), all of Sydney Mines; Heather (Peter) and Brenda (Stacey) of Florence; and Keith (Gloria) of Alberta.
Robert also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, as well as his best friend, Roxanne Pero, all of whom will forever hold him in their hearts.
He was predeceased by his father, Edward “Skinny” Forrest; his brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Forrest; his paternal grandparents, Peter and Agnes Forrest; and his maternal grandparents, John and Maydell Mills.
Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Burial will take place at a later date.
“A father’s love is forever imprinted on his girls’ hearts.”
