Joseph Capstick Obituary

In Loving Memory of Joseph Francis “Turbo Joe” Capstick

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Francis Capstick, who left this world on August 8, 2025 after a long, hard-fought battle. Joey was a man of remarkable strength, sharp wit and unshakeable will.

Joey was the son of the late Maurice & Mary (Fraser) Capstick of Bras d’Or. He is survived by his boys Jordan and Josh, brothers Tommy (Wendy), Billy (Audrey), Maurice Gerard (Lisa), sisters Rachelle (Lloyd) and Colleen, sister-in-law Mary and his friend, the mother of his children, Yvette. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joey was predeceased by his brother Brendan.

Born on January 11, 1961 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in North Sydney, Joey built a life defined by determination, integrity, and a fierce devotion to the people and passions he loved. Joe was a well known man in the trucking industry; having association with Capsticks Transport and Captrans Inc. He also had one of the best reputations for fast service and knowing how to get the job done. He will be deeply missed.

Outside of work, Joey found great joy in the outdoors –especially on his snowmobile. Well known in the snowmobiling community as “Turbo Joe”, he was a proud member of the local snowmobilers clubs, having traveled Atlantic Canada, forming lifelong friendships and making unforgettable memories. Joey’s fierce love for speed landed his sleds as “King of the Hill” more than once and had him recognized in the House of Assembly in Newfoundland in 2002. Just like their “old man”, Jordan and Josh quickly fell in love with the “thrill of the ride” and later filled their Dad’s seat on some of the fastest sleds in Central and Atlantic Canada. Joey took immense pride in watching his boys “turnin’ ‘er up”, his smile as wide as the winter trails he loved to ride.

Above all else, he was a devoted father to his sons, his pride and joy. The bond they shared was unbreakable. They are a living testament to his spirit and are strong driven – just like their Dad. His love extended to his cherished dogs, Gotti and Capone, who brought him endless comfort and many laughs with their antics.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Regional and Northside General Hospitals. Your compassion, dedication, and care throughout his journey will never be forgotten. Special thanks also go out to Shannon and Kenny Reid for the kindness, care and friendship you’ve shown Joey – he treasured you more then words can say.

Joey will be missed beyond words by his sons, his loyal dogs, his family, countless friends, and the entire snowmobiling community. His legacy lives on through every laugh, every lesson, and every trail his boys will ride in his honor.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday August 19, 2025 at St. Josephs Church in North Sydney at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Bras d’Or following the church service . There will be a reception  at Bras d’Or Church Hall on Villa Drive. All are welcome and encouraged to attend to share stories, laughter and love in memory of an extraordinary man.

Ride on, Turbo Joe – you’ll forever be in our hearts.
