It is with heavy broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle Joseph (Joey) David Jessome of Florence, Cape Breton, on November 10, 2023, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Millville on December 25, 1945, Joey was the son of the late Everett and Elizabeth (Marsh) Jessome. He was a long-time employee at Eyking’s Farm for 27 years. After retiring due to health issues, Joey enjoyed relaxing in his lazy boy, either watching the 5:00 news or his favorite hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, or watching his country music videos. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved having a laugh with anyone who came to visit.
Joey will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Judy (Day) Jessome (or as he referred to her as ‘woman’), his loving children Wendy and David (Jen) Jessome, and his pride and joy, his four grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, Matthew, and Mary Ellen whom he loved dearly. Also, his fur grandbaby Roxy. He was also a dad to many foster children over the years.
Joey is also survived by his brother and best friend Cameron, sisters Betty, Marie, and Vivian, and many nieces and nephews (including his special nephew, Victor Bonar), As well as Judy’s brothers and sisters and their families.
Besides his parents, Joey was predeceased by his son Billy, his in-laws Gordon and Sarah (Long) Day, and sisters Jeanette and Lorraine. Brothers Alex, Austin, and Jimmy; sisters-in-law Sandra Livingstone, Brenda Jessome, and Theresa Jessome; brothers-in-law Tom, Bud, Carl Bonar, and Michael Jessome.
Special thanks to Dr. Peter Poulos for his many years of care. Also, to the wonderful staff of Cape Breton County Homemakers, especially Nate, Tara, and Tammy, VON, and to the staff at the Northside General Hospital and Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the amazing care that they provided. Everyone was his ‘buddy’.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass to celebrate Joey’s life will be held at St Joseph’s Church North Sydney on Thursday, November 16, at 2:00 pm, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Reception to follow at the Sydney Mines Legion
Take it easy, Dad.
