Juanita Day (LeBlanc)
Little Bras d’Or
February 19, 1944 – July 10, 2023
Our Heavenly Father has called his faithful servant home. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Juanita Day (LeBlanc), on Monday, July 10, at the age of 79, with family by her side.
Juanita was known to many as “Nita,” “Hot Dog,” “Cook,” or “Mama Day” as she treated those she met like part of her family. Born on February 19, 1944, Nita was the fourteenth of eighteen children of the late Alexander and Lillian LeBlanc. Nita was born and raised in Florence, where she met her love, the late William (Bill) Day. Being a hard worker, she spent many years working at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, in many restaurants, and in Dr. Legacy’s Office.
Nita had a smile that was contagious, and loved to have a good laugh with those around her. She enjoyed spending her time playing darts, cards, bingo, board games, making trips to the Casino, and seeing her idol, Daniel O’Donnell. An avid sports fan, Nita was always cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs, even when they were losing.
She is survived by her loving children, Joann Day and Eddie Day (Karen), grandchildren Brianna Day, Emily MacLennan (Soren Dueck), Katie MacLennan (James MacNeil) and Madison Day, siblings Garfield, Daniel (Pat), Elaine (Don Wheeler [d.]), Louis (Marilyn) (Helen [d.]), Mae (John MacLean), Purvis (Sylvia), Douglas (Shirley) and Marguerite (Daniel MacIntyre [d.]). She will also be greatly missed by her many loving nieces, nephews, and friends, new and old. She is predeceased by husband William (Bill) Day, parents Alexander and Lillian LeBlanc, siblings Rosella (Billy Steele), Steven, Sister Marie, Ambrose, Helen (Joe MacNeil [d.]), George (Margie [d.]), Benjamin (Shirley [d.]) Richard and Clarence.
Nita and her family would like to thank Dr. Wambolt as well as the Doctors, Nurses, and team at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and Cape Breton Regional Hospital Floor 3B. They would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. D’Intino and the beautiful team at Hospice Cape Breton, who made Nita’s final days filled with laughs, comfort, and love.
A visitation for Nita will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, from 6-9 pm in JM Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St, Sydney Mines. A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Parish, Bras d’Or. A burial at the parish cemetery and a reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Nita’s final comforts, Hospice Cape Breton, online at https://hospicecapebreton.org/donations or to a charity of choice.
Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I’ll miss you until we meet again.
