It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Katherine Rachel Allen, affectionately known as Tatty, on December 11, 2024. She was a beloved wife to Jackie for 55 years and a cherished mother to Jason, Rachel (Billy), and John Ashley, and a devoted Mimi to her granddaughters, Hannah Jayne and Elizabeth, who were the light of her life.
Born on March 30, 1951, in Big Bras d'Or, Tatty’s heart was always rooted in the place she called home. She found joy and comfort in her community and never felt the need to venture far. In the last five years, she faced poor health but was able to remain in the house she loved, thanks to the extraordinary care and support provided by Jackie and Jason. Not one for travel, she found her greatest happiness at home, surrounded by her loving family. Her annual barbecue at her son John's beach was a cherished tradition in her later years.
Tatty enjoyed the simple things in life, like a good TV show, watching the birds outside her window, going for drives, and spoiling her grandkids. She was a selfless person who enjoyed giving to those she loved. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, strength, and unwavering spirit.
Tatty was the daughter of the late Johnny and Agnes MacLeod. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Frank, with whom she shared a close bond, and special cousins Carol MacDonald and David Lloyd MacDonald, sisters and brothers-in-law Edna Knox, Judy & Laurie Trenholm, Sherman & Muriel Allen, Seldon Allen, Edna Allen, and Odis Crawford.
She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Willena MacLeod, Meredith (Wallace) Lake, Neita Crawford, Carolyn (Eugene) Proctor, Lorena (Gary) O’Hanley, Linda Allen, brothers-in-law Donald (Kathy) Allen and Jerry (Ann) Allen, Sandy Knox, and many nieces and nephews.
A special heartfelt thanks to Dr. John Ritter, Dr. Stacy MacDonald, Molly, Christine, Rhonda, and all the staff at the Northside General Renal Dialysis Unit for their exceptional care and support.
The family will welcome visitors Saturday evening, December 14th, from 5-7 pm at JM Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines.A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 2 pm at St. John’s United Church in Big Bras d’Or. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northside General Hospital Renal Dialysis Unit.
Tatty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
