Kenneth Jardine
23 Feb 1936 to 21 March 2026
Our family is grieved to inform you of the loss of Kenneth Joseph Jardine Sr (Kenny), a lifelong citizen of Sydney Mines in his 90th year.
He passed away peacefully after a mercifully brief illness exactly as he wished, in his room at the Miners Memorial Manor, having spent a good day surrounded by members of his loving family and his friends the caring staff.
As we reflect on Da’s life the predominant theme is that he was the best. He was, arguably, the best baseball pitcher in the history of the town if not all CB, one of the best steel guitar players, duck hunters and certainly one of the most loyal Habs fans ever to scream at a TV.
Kenny spent 37 years working in the coal mines of Cape Breton like his father and brother. He worked his way up from the lamp house going back to college in his 30ties to gain the highest industrial electrician papers available. Returning to the pit his career was a great success ending with his retirement as Chief Electrical Supervisor. Up to the end he still knew many men’s lamp tag numbers.
He will be remembered as a great friend and neighbour to the many, many people he worked and played with over his long happy life.
Kenny and Josie were loved by all the kids who grew up around us on Mack’s corner and Waterview Drive the friends of their children and grand children who he was always good to. His many nieces and nephews the Jerretts, Bishops, Pardys, Farrows, MacMillians, Olivers, and Jardines gave him a great deal of joy as children and adults not surprisingly they will fondly remember Uncle Kenny as a favorite.
It’s a truism that everyone believes their parents to be the “best parents in the world” when reflecting on their lives. Its true for all of us in our way and none more so for we the descendants of Da/Poppy /Kenny Jardine. All his great-grand-children, as well as his grand children loved him dearly for his kindness, laughter, support and love.
My sister Cathy and I owe all that we are, all we have to Da and Ma. Their love support wisdom and generosity were truly boundless and we can never repay them for all they’ve given us. This too we celebrate and take comfort in knowing they are together enjoying their eternal reward in Gods embrace as they so fervently believed. They’re probably playing cards with Johnny and Barb.
Kenny is pre deceased by his father and mother Fred and Katherine, brothers Fred and Vince Jardine and sister Claire Farrow. Last by his wife of 61 years Josie Jardine (ne Pardy).
He is survived by his sisters Moira MacMillian and Janet Oliver (thanks for throwing his 90th Birthday party). His great grand children, Hunter, Roman, Gracie, Ashton and Jaeden, Grand Children Madlyn and Kensen their partners Roland and Kristen as well Amy, and David (who he considered his adopted son) last his 2 children Ken ( Jean ) and Cathy Jardine. We thank God for the gift of having him for so long and Da we promise to “Be good”.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
