Kevin Thurbide Obituary

In loving memory of Kevin "Ducky" Thurbide, born on August 9th, 1956, and peacefully departed on January 18th, 2024, in Sydney Mines, NS. It is with heavy hearts, yet with a celebration of his wonderful life, that we announce the passing of our dear brother and friend.

Born in Bras d’Or, Kevin was the cherished son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Ghetto) Thurbide. As the youngest in the family, he remained a constant companion to his beloved mother in her later years. Throughout his younger years, Kevin worked diligently as a laborer with Local 1115 until his retirement.

Kevin's passions were as vibrant as his spirit. He had a special love for classic cars, with his black Dodge Duster always gleaming in pristine condition. Music was a constant joy in his life, and he played the guitar with passion and dedication.

He found simple pleasures in life, enjoying moments over coffee, sitting in the church parking lot, and listening to music at Indian Beach. The night dances at the North Sydney Firehall were particularly cherished, especially when shared with his brother and best friend, Lorne. Though Lorne's passing in 2022 brought great sadness, we find comfort in the belief that they are now reunited.

A kind and gentle soul, Kevin had a knack for putting a smile on everyone's face. His warmth endeared him to all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.

Kevin was predeceased by his siblings Agnes, Benny, Joe, Barbara, Anthony, Lorne, and Alex. He is survived by his brothers Steve (Colleen), Alder Point, Brian, Sydney Mines, and Donald (Bev) Cole Harbour, as well as sisters Bernice Gillis, Red Lake, Ontario, Carlie MacNeil, Northside Guest Home, and Linda (Warren) Gillis, Millville. Special mention goes to his special brother Richard Finney, along with friends Brian White and Brian Cantwell. His special friend of 40 plus years, Ann MacDougall, will hold his memory close to her heart. Kevin had an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he cherished deeply.

May the memories of Kevin's vibrant spirit and the joy he brought to others serve as a source of comfort during this challenging time. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
