Laird “Brother” Cecil Jenkins
July 16, 1943 – June 8, 2023
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father at the age of 79. Born in Sydney Mines on July 16, 1943. Dad was the oldest son of the late Garfield and Ruth (Halliday) Jenkins.
Predeceased by our mother, Lillian (Jessome), on Aug 13, 2019, they were married for 53 years, and she was the love of his life. Not a day went by that he did not talk about her and how much he missed her. They showed us what real marriage was like, the house was always full of love and laughter.
Dad is survived by his children. #1 Son Garfield (Middle River) and “The little girl” Shelly (Troy) of Florence. His special grandchildren Morgan (Halifax) and Michael (Beaumont AB). They were the light of his life, and one of his favorite things was spending time with you both and watching you grow up. The family was the most important thing to him, and he loved us all fiercely.
Dad is also survived by his brother Charlie (Joan) Jenkins, North Sydney. His Sisters Cathy (David) Julian, Florence, and Tammy (Joey) Pye, Sydney Mines. He was predeceased by a brother Vaugh in childhood.
“Brother” was employed at Scotsburn Dairy, formerly Cape Breton Dairy, for 48 years. One of his favorite things was to tell stories about driving a Tractor Trailor from Sydney to the dairy in Antigonish. “I’d just put her down and Roar past everything.”
A special thank you to Dad’s friend Wilford his coffee buddy every day at Tim’s. The Family would like to thank Dr. Mac Kay and the wonderful nurses at the CBRH emergency dept as well as EHS; your kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place, and no public services will be held. Condolences and well wishes to the family can be made at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
