It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lana Lee LeBlanc, 48, of Sydney Mines, who passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney following a brief but severe infection.
Born in Ontario, Lana moved to Sydney Mines with her mother at the age of three and proudly called Cape Breton her home for the rest of her life.
From an early age, Lana showed a determination to do her very best. She was an excellent student growing up, and one story often shared by her family captures her spirit perfectly. In Grade Two, she once stormed home upset with a report card filled with nearly straight A’s. When her mother asked what was wrong, Lana frowned and said, “I got one B.” That quiet determination stayed with her throughout her life.
As a child, Lana and her mother spent many summers in Ontario visiting family. They stayed on her Uncle John’s farm and travelled to visit relatives, enjoying many adventures with her large group of cousins. Later, after her mother’s passing, Lana continued those visits while staying with her beloved Godmother, maintaining the close family bonds she cherished so deeply.
Those who met Lana often first noticed her striking red hair, followed quickly by her flashing eyes and dazzling smile. She could be a formidable force when needed, but beneath that strength was a compassionate and generous heart. Lana loved children and had a natural way of welcoming anyone who needed a friend.
After the loss of her parents, Lana formed a particularly close bond with Honey and Beth MacDonald, who became like family to her. Over time, Emma also became like the little sister Lana never had.
Despite the distance, Lana remained deeply connected to her family in Ontario. She never forgot birthdays or holidays, faithfully sending cards, gifts, and thoughtful messages. During times of illness or loss, she wrote heartfelt letters that brought comfort and support to those who needed it most. Along with her kindness, Lana possessed a quick wit and a wonderfully quirky sense of humour that brought laughter to those around her.
Lana was employed as the Manager of Finance with Build Nova Scotia in Sydney, where she was respected and valued by her colleagues. She will be greatly missed by her friends, neighbours, coworkers, and her large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins in Ontario.
Lana was predeceased by her mother, Patricia Stevenson-LeBlanc, and her father, Alec Vickers.
Though her time with us was far too short, Lana leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, and warmth that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Now reunited with her parents, she rests in eternal peace with God.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at JM Jobes Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 2–3 p.m., with the service beginning at 3 p.m.
Though she has left this world too soon, the kindness she shared, the laughter she brought, and the love she gave will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
