It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Lawrence Bailey, share the news of his sudden passing on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, at his home in Sydney Mines. Born on August 27th, 1953, Lawrence was the beloved son of the late James Guy and Jessie (Childs) Bailey.
A proud son of Atlantic Street, Sydney Mines, Lawrence embarked on life’s journey, leaving Cape Breton at the early age of just 16 to work on the Great Lake boats. It was during these years that he met and married the love of his life, Yvonne.
After many adventures, Lawrence returned to make roots in North Sydney with his family, he proudly owned and operated Bailey’s Upholstery for an impressive 32 years. Lawrence could also be found at Central Court where he worked for over 30 years.
Together, Lawrence and Yvonne built a beautiful life, raising three children: their daughter, Tammy (Jim) Clark, and twin sons, Troy and Todd. As the years passed, his greatest pride was sharing his love for hunting, fishing and poker with his seven grandchildren—Hunter, Hudson, Ethan, Tanner, Nicky, Dominic, and Danica—each of whom adored their "Poppy." His memory will forever be etched in their hearts.
Lawrence was survived by siblings Elizabeth Swan, Elaine Boutilier, Debbie Pyke (Gary) and often seen with his closely connected brother Kevin Bailey. He was survived by his many fond relatives from Newfoundland, sister in laws Karen and Joanne and many nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was predeceased by his parents James and Jessie, in-laws Leslie and Ruth Pyke, as well as siblings Patty Kendall and James Guy (Butch) Bailey.
A visitation to honor Lawrence's life will be held on Tuesday, October 15th, from 1-3 p.m. at JM Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines, followed by a service at 3 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jackie Warren.
The family will welcome friends and family to a lunch-on following services at Central Court Homes in North Sydney.
