PARDY, Lenore Rebecca (nee Nicholson)
October 8, 1937 – November 8, 2023, aged 86.
Peacefully, in the early morning, Lennie – as her beloved family and friends called her – passed away. On that morning, the clouds parted, and the angels and her beloved Jim ushered her to heaven.
Mom was the heart of our family, the all-important matriarch, and a fierce advocate of all things good. She cherished her family more than she could express. Every gift and gesture sent her way was received with heartfelt tears and grateful warmth.
Lennie met the love of her life, Jim, and they were married on October 19, 1957. They settled into their house on Main Street and set out to make it a home where they were overjoyed to welcome their sons, James and Blair. After a few years, Lennie decided it was time to move all the way across the street to their new home. With their family all nestled in, they raised their boys with strong morals and family values. Jim worked hard throughout his life both in the mines and seasonally on fishing boats. Sadly, Lennie’s husband left to be with the Lord in 2002. On that day, she became the matriarch of the family and rose to her position with great success.
Lennie was successful in her career at the Cape Breton Post, working in advertising and reporting. Lennie’s strong Christian faith and love of music led her to the church, and for about 50 years, her Sundays were spent as a church organist and choir director.
Lennie became somewhat of a technology wizard in her later years. She was excited to get going on her computer and then moved on to her iPad and her Google ‘assistant’ that was always by her side. She thought it was great fun to check out local goings-on on social media and asking Google to tell her the news of the day. She loved to nestle into a good book, a box of chocolate bars, and a gallon or two of ice cream.
Lennie and Jim were so very proud of the accomplishments of their sons; James became a police officer and law professor, and Blair rose to the ranks of Superintendent with Parks Canada. James’ career led him to Ontario, where he met his wife, Linda. Blair is married to Bonnie (Whyte)
Lennie leaves behind her best friend and confidant in her little sister Sally Popovich (late Danny), who will sorely miss her comfort and guidance. Her big brother Alexander ‘Nick’ Nicholson (late Barbara) brought great joy to Lennie over many years. Between the three of them, the music was breathtaking enough to raise the rafters. Lennie will be fondly remembered by her step-sister Trudy Herritt. Predeceased was her step-sister Ronalda Bowne.
Lennie was blessed with two lovely granddaughters, Georgia Pardy and Alyxandria Kennedy (Nathaniel Sawer), who meant the world to her! Her three nephews will miss her terribly - Alexander ‘Sandy’ Nicholson, Trevor Popovich (Karen), and Craig Popovich. Lennie was a Great Aunt to Cassidy & Justin Popovich, and Bradon Popovich.
Lennie had a warm circle of besties whom she spoke with every day, sometimes many times a day. She leaves behind her dear friends Pencie, Myrtle, and Georgie. She sorely missed angels Sharon, Norma, and Ethel, who predeceased her. Lennie was surrounded by people who cared a great deal for her. Missing her is Tommy Williams, always there to help out, great neighbors Lloyd and Delores Harris, Edna and Bill (late) MacDonald, and friend Anne Kempt. A very special place in her heart was kept for Billie Jean.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lennie’s life at a memorial service at Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main Street in Sydney Mines, on Tuesday, November 14, 2023; visitation at 10 am and service at 11 a.m. Richie Robertson is officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Sydney Mines Food Bank or a charity of your choice.
