Linda MacDonald Obituary

LINDA (FORTUNE) MACDONALD, 66

Sydney Mines

We, the family of Linda MacDonald, are heartbroken to announce that on Friday, May 14, 2021, she passed away peacefully after a brief, but heroic, battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney Mines, Linda was the daughter of the late Colin and Lorraine Fortune.  Being the oldest of 10 children, Linda learned early on that hard work was part of life.  She went to work early and her career spanned various locations in Nova Scotia and in various industries including the Fish Plant, Floral Shops, Sobeys and most recently Superstore in North Sydney where she retired less than 2 years ago.  Linda loved people and helping others.  Being of service and assistance to others was her calling.  She was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, but her most important role was that of Nanny.

Linda is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Stuart; her children, Stuart (Jocelyn) MacDonald, Kerri-Ann (Tony) Moore, and her four grandchildren, Riley, Mya, and Isaac Moore, and Rowan MacDonald.  Linda leaves behind her 9 siblings Adelaine (Carl), Colleen (Jackie), Ada (Lyndon), Deborah (Michael), Danny, Colin (Brenda), John Thomas, Kenny, and Frankie, as well as sister-in-law Caren, her brother-in-law Bill (Alice) MacDonald and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her parents, Linda was predeceased by her parents-in-law, Doug and Connie MacDonald, as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Ian and Diane MacDonald and many aunts and uncles.

A special thank you for outstanding care, understanding and compassion is extended to Dr. Andrew Wawer, Dr. Pahil (Cape Breton Cancer Centre) as well as the professional and dedicated staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital (ICU and Palliative Care units).  Heartfelt appreciation is extended to you all for your support during Linda’s final journey Home.

At Linda's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.  A memorial service celebrating Linda’s life will be held at a later date, pending Covid-19 restrictions.

Donations in Linda’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre capital campaign.

“Mom, there are no goodbyes, wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts”
