 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, Madeleine Foster, on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the Miners Memorial Manor in Sydney Mines. She was born in Sydney Mines on September 12, 1932. Mom was thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate her 90th birthday in September 2022 with a party in her honor, surrounded by family and friends. 

Mom worked at the Bargain Store in Sydney Mines in her early years. She then worked as a cleaner with the school board for many years until retirement. Mom’s true love was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her dog, Toby, whom she adored. Mom spent 62 years as a very dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 008, Sydney Mines. She was chosen as a Silver Cross Mother and was the recipient of the Palm Leaf award and many other awards in the Legion. As many can attest, Mom lived every day to the fullest. She truly cared for the well-being of everyone around her. She was strong-willed with the best sense of humor and carried an undying love for “her” Montreal Canadiens.

Mom is survived by her sons, Bobby (Corinne) and Cyril (Betty); Daughters, Frances (Hughie) Moore, and Heather (Ian) MacNeil; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Cyril Foster; parents Robert and Theona Simpson; daughter Sheila Foster-Devoe; and brother David, in infancy.

We, the family of Madeleine, would like to thank the staff at the Miners Memorial Manor, Dr. Michel McKeough, Louise, Dr. Kohlsmith, and the staff at Capital Drugs, for their professionalism and compassion for our mom.

A visitation for Mom will be held Wednesday, January 18, from 2 to 4 pm at the JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral Service will be at 4 pm at the funeral home following the visitation. Reception to follow the funeral at the Sydney Mines Legion.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory may be made to a charity of choice.  Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
