Madelyn MacKinnon Obituary

Madelyn MacKinnon

Florence, it’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful, beloved Mother, Madelyn (Bonnell) Mac Kinnon, on March 30th 2023, with her family by her side.

Born in New Glasgow in 1943 to Gordon Bonnell and Elizabeth (Cunningham) Bonnell. Madelyn was the youngest of three sisters.

The Bonnell family lived in PEI, where Madelyn attended school. She really loved growing up in the countryside, with the farms, and animals, and being one of the only houses on the street that had electricity.  We would like to share a PEI story about dear Madelyn. One sunny day in Morell (PEI), Madelyn came home with an armload of fresh produce... When asked where she received all of this produce, she replied, " In a field…. that had lots of vegetables.".

Those who knew her, remember how beautiful, thoughtful, caring, and loving she was, along with her sense of humor that affected everyone who came in contact with her.

Madelyn is survived by her daughter Karen (Richard Deeble) Florence and her son Paul MacKinnon, Florence. She is survived by 5 grandchildren, Colin (Nichole) Ferguson, Alberta, Paige Ferguson (Jordan Ellis ), Kara Mackinnon (Colin Wicks) Halifax, Kent MacKinnon, Colton MacKinnon, and several great-grandchildren whom she adored. Madelyn leaves to mourn her sister MaryLouise MacDonald - Collins Halifax, and several nieces and nephews.

Madelyn was predeceased by her son Daniel (infancy), by her spouse Daniel Mac Kinnon, and by recently departed companion Donald Mac Arthur.  Parents Gordon and Elizabeth Bonnell, in-laws Archibald and Margaret Mac Kinnon, predeceased by her sister Jane Dipenta, brothers in law: Mike Dipenta, Keith Mac Donald, Gil Collins. Sister-in-law Maureen Coates, nephew Devin Coates.

We would like to thank all staff at Mira Bay, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, for their excellent and professional care shown towards our mother during her stay.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be a family celebration of life to be announced this summer 2023.
