It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Marcella Marie Chislett, age 72, passed away peacefully at home on November 26, 2025.
Born in Sydney Mines on October 14, 1953, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Marsh) Alderson.
In her younger years, Marcella could often be found at the crosswalk, serving her community as a dedicated crossing guard. She was also a loving caregiver to many children throughout the area. Later in life, she discovered her true passion as a Continuing Care Assistant with the Northside Homemakers, where she worked with compassion and pride until her retirement.
Marcella is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Gary; her sons Troy (Debbie), Brian (Sharon), Cory (Tracy), and Gary (Alicia), all of Sydney Mines; and her daughter, Jodi-Lynn (Eric) of Milton, Ontario. She was a devoted grandmother to Lucas, Miranda, Taylor, Alexander, William, Eric, Charlee, Hudson, Tyler, Emilee, Bethanee, Nathan, Micheal, and Karley—each of whom brought her endless joy.
She is also survived by her sisters, Brenda and Mary (Wendell), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren, and her close friend, Betty Devoe.
Besides her parents, Marcella was predeceased by her mother- and father-in-law, Adelaide and Stan Gracie; her brother-in-law, Joe Donovan; and many other brothers- and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the Northside Homemakers for their care and kindness over the years.
Marcella will be forever remembered for her kindness, her warm smile, and her deep love for Christmas time and lilacs.
In keeping with Marcella’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Mother in Heaven
If Roses grow in Heaven Lord,
Please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother’s arms
And tell her they’re from me.
Tell her that I love her and miss her,
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
And hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it everyday.
But there’s an ache within my heart
That will never go away.
