It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Margaret Leona MacNeil, announce her passing on Friday, November 7, 2025. Born on April 23, 1944, Margaret was the daughter of the late Harold and Lois MacNeil.
Margaret loved her family with all her heart. She rarely missed a day talking with or visiting her sisters, Anne and Louise, at the Northside Guest Home. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good laugh. Margaret enjoyed her daily trips to Tim Hortons with her very special friends—who meant the world to her. She spoke so highly of each of them, and we are deeply grateful that she had such kindness and companionship in her life.
Margaret also loved to dance. She could often be found at the North Sydney Fire Hall or the Legion, “cutting a rug” on the dance floor. At the end of each day, she returned home to her beloved cat, Shadow, who was always waiting for her. Their bond was special and seen clearly by anyone who knew them.
Margaret is lovingly remembered by her sons, affectionately known as “The Aker Boys”:
Daryl (Martha), David, Brian (Carolyn), and George (Chevonne).
She was so proud of her grandchildren:
Nick (Jasmine), Erica (Justin), Kris (Raman), Morgan, Cory (Erica), Jacob (Skotia), Adam (Lauren), Josh (Michaela), Liam, Jada (Florian), and Kayden (Rebecca),
and her cherished great-grandchildren: Alex, Ava, Charlotte, and Ellie.
Also left to mourn are her siblings: Anne, Louise, and Butch (Geraldine), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Margaret was predeceased by her brother John and her brother-in-law Gordon MacKinnon.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Peter Poulos, Dr. Maria Kang, and their staff for the care they provided to Mom over the years.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 1:00–2:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family welcomes everyone to join them for a luncheon and celebration of Margaret’s life at the Sydney Mines Legion, Branch 8, Main Street, Sydney Mines. All who knew and loved her are warmly invited to attend.
