It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Marjorie Eileen DuGas (MacNeil), on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, just shy of her 98th birthday.
Born on May 18, 1927, in Little Bras d'Or, Marjorie was the cherished daughter of the late Donald and Bridget (Marsh) MacNeil. Affectionately known as Marj, she was a woman of great faith, wisdom, and love. Her warmth, wit, and devotion to family and friends touched the lives of all who knew her.
Marjorie was the wife of the late Gregory DuGas, and together they raised their family. She leaves behind her children: Bernard (Norma), Austin, Sheila (Kenny), Anne (Dana), Brendan (Susan), Gregory (Shannon), Lou, and her honorary daughter, Lynn Yetman (Lennie); along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was a proud grandmother to Jason (Cheryl), Jody, Suzanne (Jason), Charlotte (Joshua), Brendan Jr. (Shandy), and Christian. Her joy was multiplied by her great-grandchildren: Ryan (Jacqueline), Matthew, Kennedy, Madison, and Willem.
Marjorie was predeceased by two of her children, Anne Marie and Brendan (both in infancy), as well as her siblings John (Mary), Austin (Margaret), Alex (in infancy), and Mary (Donald). Marj was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In years past, Marjorie took great pride in her involvement with St. Anne's Church and choir, the CWL, TOPS, darts, and many games of 45s played at the Pensioners' Club. Over the years, Marjorie enjoyed many trips South with her husband Greg, her daughters, and friends. Marjorie also had many furry companions; "Sookie" being one of her favorites.
Marjorie's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. A life well-lived, Marjorie's legacy is one of love and kindness. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Beth McCormick, Dr. Dawn Browne, Dr. A. Wawer, Dr. E. Ignacio, and all the nurses and staff on the fifth floor at Northside General Hospital. Special thanks to "Ma's girls" - Lynn, Brenda, Christa, and Gloria - to whom we are forever grateful.
A visitation will take place at JM Jobe's Funeral Home, located on Main Street in Sydney Mines, on Friday, May 9th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, May 10th, at St. Anne's Church in Alder Point at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at Alder Point Hall.
