With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Marjorie Joyce MacPhee (Hurley), who passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born and raised in Florence, Joyce was the daughter of the late Cecil and Edna (Osmond) Hurley. She was also predeceased by her brother, Waide Hurley (Brenda), and a cousin Gary
Joyce will be forever loved and remembered by her daughters, Brenda (Harry) and Diane (James), her son Paul, and her cherished grandchildren, Layne, Rebecca, and Jacobe. She is also survived by her brother, Albert (Tina), her extended family, and her close-knit Jehovah’s Witness family, all of whom brought her great comfort and joy.
In her quiet moments, Joyce found happiness in the simple things she loved most—spending time with her family, crocheting, picking cranberries, and strolling along her favourite beaches in search of sea glass.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of the QEII, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and Northside General Hospital (4 West), with special gratitude to Dr. Andrew Wawer for his care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Florence, on Saturday, October 4th, at 1:00 p.m. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
