Mary Jessome Obituary

God needed another Angel in Heaven, so Jane was called home to be with her loving husband David.  Jane Jessome left her earthly home with us and crossed over to her heavenly home with God on September 28, 2024 at the age of 83.  Jane was the daughter of the late James and Anne (Harper) Deleskie senior.  She is survived by her children, Davy (Sheila), Denise, Derek (Carolyn), Debra, Duane (Joeliene), her grandchildren Brittany, Chad, Eric, Elise, Daniel, Katie, John, James, Mitchell, Logen, Connor, Courtland and Quinn, her great grandchildren, Kylila, Luna, Mitchell, Charlotte, Elaina, Olivia and her sister Sheila (Bill), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws.

Jane was a registered nurse for over 35 years and always enjoyed helping people.  She went back to school and received her Bachelor of Administration and Health Services. Her thesis for this degree encompassed the topic on Organ and Tissue Donation which eventually led her to spearhead a local Organ and Tissue Donation Association. In 1999 Jane formed the Retired Nurses Association.  This Association has been thriving due to all her hard work.

For years she was an active member of the ladies auxiliary of 602 McCurdy Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron – the same squadron that all 5 children were members of.  During this time, she helped the cadets to acquire all the criteria necessary to reach the gold level of the Duke of Edinburgh program and took them as far as London, Ont. so these cadets could be presented with their medals from the Duke of Edinburgh himself.   She was a second mom to many people in the community.

She was well known in the Florence community as a member of the Council of Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  She helped lots of families work through the process of getting their children baptised.  She was an active member of the food bank, clothing depot, blood pressure clinic, and Alzheimer Society.  She worked to get funding for the chair yoga group and foot care.

She was predeceased by her loving husband David Sr, her parents, siblings Bill, Jimmy, Ronald and Donald, infant twin brothers and her step mother Maisie.

In lieu of flowers or donations, Jane would like to be remembered as one who lived to help others.  So, she would want you to pay it forward and offer help to those that need it.  Sometimes only a smile or a hello, how are you, is all it takes.  She brought her children up to believe families that play, pray, and work together will continue that belief with their families to come after her.

There will be a visitation on Monday October 7, 4-7 pm at Jobes Funeral Home Sydney Mines. A celebration of her life will take place Tuesday, October 8, at 11 am in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Fabian Ihunegbo officiating.
