Mary Marjorie MacNeil, 82
Sydney, Cape Breton
Mary Marjorie MacNeil (MacDougall) was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away Peacefully on Sept 6th 2023 at the age of 82.
Born in Cheticamp on Sept 4th 1941 she was the daughter of the late Hector and Mary Anne MacDougall (Kanary). She had a wonderful childhood in Capstick, Cape Breton, being raised by her grandparents. Her strong faith was instilled from an early age that carried on throughout her life.
During her life Mary with her love of fashion opened her own clothing store in Sydney for numerous years, later selling real estate, most importantly later in life she went back to school to obtain her LPN, she ended her working career at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
She was an active member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers Assoc. For over 40 years, having made and maintained many friendships along the way. Mary was a devoted member of the Liberal Assoc. Having received the Lifetime Service Award. Mary was also a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church / CWL.
Mary loved to travel whether it was a weekend trip with Earl to a Liberal convention or a family trip to Boston to visit her brother and his family. Mary made other trips to Medjugorje and Scotland, with her last trip being to Florida with her grandchildren. Knowing Mary was to know her love for all animals, especially her best friend, Ben.
Mary’s greatest joy in life was her husband, sons, and grandchildren. Mary and Earl were married on Sept 23rd, 1961, and spent 53 loving years together. She is survived by Vaughn (Jamie) MacNeil Sydney, Doug (Cheryl Vickers) MacNeil Sydney, Brennan MacNeil Howie Center, and Eugene (Catherine) MacNeil New Glasgow, and her Grandchildren Ella MacNeil, Harrison, and Madelyn Mombourquette.
The family would like to thank the Health Care Team at Cape Breton Regional, Palliative Care, and Cape Breton Hospice for their wonderful care. Memorial donations may be made in Mary's memory to Cape Breton Hospice.
The family will receive visitors from 4 to 7 PM, Thursday, Sep 14th, in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home Sydney Mines. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, Sep 15th, at Our Lady of Fatima Church Sydney River with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment will be on Sunday, Sept 16th in Saint Margaret's Cemetery Bay St. Lawrence Victoria Co.
