With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Mary Geraldine "Gerry" McInnis, who passed away peacefully at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by love.

Born on July 14, 1934, to the late Margaret (Tutty) and Richard Vickers of Sydney Mines. Gerry was predeceased by her cherished husband, John (Jackie) McInnis. A devout Catholic, Gerry was a dedicated member of Immaculate Conception Parish.

Gerry found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved picking blueberries with her sister Betty, often making a day of it with a thermos of tea. Some of her fondest memories were road trips with her sisters Betty and Theresa to visit their sister Isabel in Canso. Her favorite place was Lockman’s Beach, where she could often be found walking along the shore, chatting with friends or passersby, or simply watching the waves.

Gerry’s door was always open to visitors, with a hot cup of tea and homemade sweets ready to share. She was an exceptional cook, famous for her pizza cups, and loved spending time working on her puzzle books. She also enjoyed going to Robin’s Donuts with friends to grab a coffee and a sweet. However, nothing brought her greater joy than her family.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Brenda Lee (John) Dubeau – Kelowna, BC. Curtis McInnis – Fredericton, NB. Her grandchildren: Joshua (Caitlin) Dubeau – Fort McMurray, AB. Brayden McInnis – Rothesay, NB. Her great-grandson: Declan Dubeau – Fort McMurray, AB.
She is also survived by her brothers: Richard (Marg) Vickers – Sydney Mines. Fr. John Vickers C.S.C. – Welland, ON. Brother-in-law Greg MacInnis – North Sydney, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Gerry was predeceased by her siblings Margaret Long, Betty MacNeil, Isabelle O’Handley, Theresa MacLean, Yvonne McInnis, and Alexander Vickers, as well as her grandson Matthew McInnis and beloved sisters- and brothers-in-law.

Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Ignacio, Dr. McKeough, and the nursing staff at Northside General Hospital for taking such wonderful and compassionate care of our mother.
A special thank you to nephew Scott MacNeil, niece Brenda McNeil, friends Belinda Gillis, and Pam Hall, who she considered to be her guardian angels.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of choice.

Mom there is a hot cup of tea waiting for you.

If roses grow in Heaven,
Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my mother’s arms
And tell her they are from me.

Tell her that I love her and miss her,
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
And hold her for a while.

Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
But there’s an ache within my heart
That will never go away.
