Mary (Sommers) Pearo

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved nanny, mother, sister, and friend, Mary Pearo (Sommers), at the age of 68. Mom passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the CBRH, surrounded by her loving family.

Born January 21st, 1954, Mary was raised in Florence by her late mother Dora Sommer with lovely guidance from her maternal grandparents, Mary and Arthur Sommers, and Aunt Jen and Uncle Frank. She was also predeceased by her brother Michael (Mikey) and sister and brother-in-law Ena and Robert MacFarlane.

Mary was a hard-working woman who had a 25-year career working alongside many close friends at Clearwater Fisheries. Mary was always the life of the party; she could be found dancing up a storm on the dance floor.   She had the biggest heart and would put a smile on everyone she met.

Mary came from a large family and is remembered by her sisters Heather (Joey), Peggy (John), Julie (Brent), Raylene (Kenny) and brothers Frankie (Sharon) and Eric (Kelly), Chris (Sherri) and brothers and sisters-in-law, Barbara (Roger), Brian (Marita), William (Cindy), Dorthey (William) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well her special friends Ann Laffin and Moria Hines.

Left with a lifetime of amazing memories, Mary leaves behind her children, MJ Pearo (Shauna), Alissa Schaller (Steve), and Heather Cloutier (Jeff). The lights of her life were her grandchildren, Sydney, Sophia, Aiden, Olivia, Connor, Dylan, and Robyn. As she was married to Michael years ago, and time separated them, their long-time companionship later in life lasted up to the very last days.

We would like to say thank you to the CCU Unit in CBRH for their caring and compassion over the last several days. We appreciate all you have done.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Cape Breton Hospital foundation. Visitation for Mary Pearo will take place Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at J. M. Jobes Funeral Home 635 Main St Sydney Mines from 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place Thursday at 11 am in Carman United Church with Rev Nick Phillips officiating. Reception to follow at the Sydney Mines Legion.
