Mathias Thomas Murphy

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mathias (Matt) Murphy, 63, of Sydney Mines, NS, formerly of River Ryan, Cape Breton, on June 13, 2026 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of Mary (Feit) and the late Manning Murphy.  Matt worked numerous jobs throughout the country. Matt is survived by his partner, Jacquelyn Simpson; son, Chris (Kari), Red Deer, AB; daughter, Debra (Brian), Red Deer AB; brothers Joey, River Ryan, Manning (Paula), Mayerthorpe, AB, Danny (Nicole) Quebec and Leo (Rita), River Ryan; sisters Margaret Murphy, Scotchtown, Kathleen Cormier, Quebec, Bernice Murphy, River Ryan, grandkids, Emma Keith and Taylor Murphy, Red Deer, AB, his Uncle Chicken, Sydney Mines, NS; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Matt was predeceased by a brother Roddie Murphy, and a sister Marie Hannigan. A memorial mass will be held on July 3rd at 10 am in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford with Father Jim Oliver officiating. Cremation has taken place.
