“Millie” Winstanley Obituary

It is with beautiful memories and broken hearts that we, the family of Mary Mildred “Millie” Winstanley, announce her passing on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at her home.

Mom loved her family unconditionally. She was patient, kind, and always willing to help anyone in need. She was also well known for making the best homemade bread and pies. Millie enjoyed Sunday drives, camping with her family, and later in life, spending time at the cottage.

She was the daughter of the late Walter and Regis Day.

Millie cherished visits with her family and her fur babies. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Gerard MacDonald), Lynn (Bryce Stubbert), Marlene (Brent Stubbert), Jacqueline (David Gerrow), Bernadette, and Adele (Paul Arsenault); and by her only son, John (Donalda).

She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Sheri, Ricky, Michael, Daniel, Amy, Mark, Melissa, Matthew, Lisa, Laura, Brittany, Lauren, Craig, and Jacob, as well as her 24 great-grandchildren.

Also left to mourn are her sisters, Joan Nugent (the late Billy), Keitha Fahey (the late Billy), Miriam Gouthro (Vic), and Wanda Rideout (the late Alex); her brother, Billy (Marcella); and her sister-in-law, Mary Frances.

Besides her husband, Jack, Millie was predeceased by her son-in-law, Robbie Simm; her sister, Theresa MacLean (the late Wilson); and her brothers, Reginald, Wayne, Alexander, Bernie (the late Norma), Urban (the late Patricia), and Alvin.

Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the EHS paramedics, the staff of the North Sydney Walmart Pharmacy, the Emergency Department and Seniors Care Program at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. Andrew Wawer and staff, as well as the staff of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home for their care and compassion.

A family service will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home in Sydney Mines.

Poem for Mom

Our lives go on without you
But nothing is the same,
We have to hide our heartaches
When someone speaks your name.

Sad are the hearts that love you,
Silent the tears that fall,
Living our lives without you
Is the hardest part of all.

You did so many things for us,
Your heart was kind and true,
And when we needed someone to talk to,
We could always count on you.

The special years will not return
When we were all together,
But with the love within our hearts
You will walk with us forever.

We love you, Mom.
