Nancy Roland Obituary

Nancy Jane (MacLean) Roland

There are no words to express how heartbroken we are to announce the passing of Nancy Roland, 65, on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Northside General Hospital.

Born July 21, 1956, in Sydney Mines, Nancy was always a natural caregiver and took care of everyone around her.  In her younger years she volunteered as a candy striper, which led her to later study nursing and become a CNA.  After marrying the love of her life and having children, she then became a stay-at-home mom, which was her true passion.  As her children grew, she went back to work as a lunch lady at Alder Point Elementary School, and then on to work at the cafeteria at T.L. Sullivan.

Nancy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Nicky Roland, who spent the last three years as her sole caregiver and showed his unconditional love and support through those times.  Along with her pride and joy, her boy Nicholas, who she cared for for many years until he had to care for her.

Nancy will be sadly missed by Nicky and their children, Nicole (Brandon) Bennett, Mary Louise (John) McCormick, and Nicholas Roland.  She will be greatly missed by her treasured grandchildren Hailey, Kadence, Jayden, Sophia and Aidan.

Nancy is also survived by her best friends, her siblings Donna (Charlie) Devoe, Connie (Tommy) Forrest, and Norman (Freda) MacLean.  Also left to mourn are several nieces, nephews, and great nieces.

She was predeceased by her loving parents Lorne and Margaret (Nicholson) MacLean and her infant sister Mary Louise.  Nancy is also predeceased by her very special Aunt Alta Nicholson, whom she loved dearly.

We’d like to give a special thank you to all who were there to help and support her during the last few years.  Neighbors and friends who sent many meals.  The nurses and staff on the 5th floor at Northside General Hospital, Cape Breton County Homemakers and Betty MacLean.   A special thank you also to her health care team, Dr. Andrew Wawer, Dr. Arlene Kelly-Wiggins and Dr. Kenneth Rockwood.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2022, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A graveside service will take place Thursday, at 11 am in St. joseph Cemetery, Bras d’Or. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
