Naomi Imrie Obituary

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished Naomi Imrie on November 18, 2025, at the Northside Community Guest Home, surrounded by friends and family.

Born in Sydney Mines to the late Richard and Naomi (Doucette) Imrie, Naomi grew up in Florence, where she formed many of the memories and friendships that carried her through life. When she needed additional support, Naomi spent time at the Breton Ability Centre, where she enjoyed walks on the grounds, crafts, activities, and the company of many wonderful friends.

Naomi cherished life’s simplest comforts, especially a hot cup of tea — her very favourite. She adored her treats and was happiest with a bar, a bag of chips, or a cold Pepsi close at hand. In her own sweet way, she would often ask if you had a car, hoping for a drive so she could go have tea with “Ma.” Though her mother had passed a few years earlier, that wish never faded — and we take comfort in knowing she finally has that long-awaited cup of tea with Ma now.

Besides her parents, Naomi was predeceased by her sisters Shirley Tobin, Barbara MacLean, Ann MacDonald, Helen Gerrow, and Kaye Squires. She is survived by her sister, Betty Gracie; and her special niece, Cathy Tobin.

After the passing of Naomi’s parents, she and Cathy formed a deeply meaningful bond. Their love, care, and devotion to one another only grew stronger over the years, becoming a constant source of comfort and joy for them both.

In 2018, Naomi became a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, where she was quickly embraced by staff who treated her with genuine kindness, compassion, and affection. The family wishes to extend their upmost gratitude to all the nurses and staff who cared for Naomi as though she were their own family, staying by her side with tenderness and dedication until her final moments.

A special and heartfelt thank-you is extended to Michelle Keeling, whose presence became Cathy’s safe haven. Michelle’s devotion, kindness, and unwavering care brought comfort every day. The family will forever remain grateful for the love and dignity shown to Naomi by Michelle and by the entire team at the Northside Community Guest Home. Words cannot fully express our appreciation.

As per Naomi’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at a later date under the direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines.

“I am comforted by the grace of knowing that my aunt is now free. Fly high above the angels. Fly high, my sweet aunt—your gentle heart is at rest.”
— Cathy Tobin
