It is with great sadness that we, the family of Nicholas Gerard Donato, age 56, of Sydney Mines, NS, regret to announce his sudden passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, NS, on June 5th, 2023, surrounded by his wife, Shona, his children and his family.
Born in Sydney Mines, NS, on August 16th, 1966, to Nicholas & Margaret (Lyle) Donato. He was a Canadian Army Veteran and a Commissionaire, and upon retirement, he worked at the Coast Guard College.
He is survived by his loving wife & soul mate Shona (Bonnar) Donato, who will miss him until her last breath, and his beautiful children, Jodi, Alecia (Bradley), Courtney (Kent) & Nicholas (Jessica). His 10 grandchildren, Larissa, Leora, Layla-Lee, Luke, Taytum, Carter, Maison, Morgan, Ryan, Anthony & a new baby coming in November; his sister Paula (Jamie) Duggan; his brother Darren, many nieces & nephews & his mother-in-law whom he loved dearly, Gertrude Bonnar.
He was predeceased by both his parents, his father-in-law Jimmy (Buller) Bonnar, his fur baby who passed, and Jose & his very special angel Ryan.
We would like to send out a special thank you to the EHS paramedics Dan Ferguson & Laura Hillman, the Internal Medicine doctor, Dr. Thana, and his special ICU nurse Keira, whom he had many laughs with in the end & of course, the rest of the ICU team. We greatly appreciate everything you did to help and make him comfortable until the end.
We will miss you and love you forever! This is not goodbye; this is a see you later! Love You!
