Noreen Haley
August 5, 1944 – September 6, 2024
Noreen Haley passed peacefully on Sept. 6, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Anne Ash (Bachelet) of Sydney Mines and was predeceased by her son Brent Haley on Jan. 6, 2024, in Mexico. She has family in Nanaimo; Lynn (Gary) and grandchildren Jessica (Ryan) Jacquie (Steve) and Lacey (Carter), and great grandchildren Sydney, Carter, Oliver, Yvonne, Ayala, and Cohen.
Noreen was a registered nurse having graduated from a three-year program in 1964 from the former St. Elizabeth Hospital in North Sydney (Northside General Hospital). Her nursing career took her to Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and back to Nova Scotia in 2019. Her specialty area was Addictions since 1972 in Ontario.
In 2004, Noreen, Barry McNeil, Dr. Cox, Dr. Tom Crawford, and Dr. Sebastian were instrumental in getting MMP (now ORP) in Cape Breton. She travelled 8 trips from Vancouver and Vancouver Island to Cape Breton and back, driving by herself and loving every moment between 1989 and her last trip in 2019 when she returned to live her final years.
She loved gardening and crocheting and going to Lockman’s Beach to have her morning coffee from Robin’s. She knew many of the servers at Robin’s and appreciated their pleasant smiles and services.
She enjoyed bowling and loved her team the “Tigers”. She had joined the Ladies’ Auxiliaries at the Legion in Sydney Mines but unfortunately did not get an opportunity to volunteer her time.
Thank you to Dr. MacKillop for her support and expediency in setting up palliative home care. There are so many to thank. Special thank you to Chris from Ontario, for years of friendship and laughter since 1973. Many helped with support and seeing I got to appointments, meals, coffee, shopping and so much more: Noelle, Wendy, Joanne, Anna, Marguerite, Colleen (cousin and her husband Terry) Treva, and Alyson (cousin) for the many phone calls, and Charlie for the handyman chores. Thank you to all who supported her during this leg of her journey.
At Noreen’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
