Norma Mae Campbell

Norma Mae Campbell, 92, Big Bras d’ Or, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Mom was born September 2, 1931, to Kenneth and Annie Morrison on the North Shore, Cape Breton. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. The family moved to Big Bras d’ Or, where Mom met Donnie (Dad),they married and raised their family.
Mom’s teaching career started at an early age and continued until her retirement from Boularderie School. She is fondly remembered as a compassionate and caring teacher. She also was an active member of her community with St. John’s United Church, Victoria County Hospice, Retired Teachers Association, and tutoring after retirement. Mom was a passionate card player who rarely missed her weekly card games. Mom’s keen sense of compassion led her to comfort others in need.
She is survived by sons Blair (Shelley) and Reid (Lorelei), daughters Denise (David) and Lorna, and 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Donnie, her sons Russell, Kennie, and grandchildren Andrew, Ashley, and CoraLee.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home (Joseph Hall) for their unwavering care for Mom. To Vivian, a lifelong friend of the family, we thank you for your professionalism and love for Mom.
Visitation will be at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines Monday, October 16, from 4-7 pm
The funeral service will be held at St. John’s United Church, Big Bras d’Or, on Tuesday, October 17, at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at St. James Cemetery.
In keeping with Mom’s spirit, donations can be made to Clifford Street Youth Center, North Sydney, or Community Cares, Sydney Mines.
